Public Meeting Notice - Forest Conservation and Community Development

Berkshire Regional Planning Commission and Franklin Regional Council of Governments with the assistance of the Franklin Land Trust are conducting public outreach to determine the level of interest in a new model of assistance and involvement by the State and U.S. Forest Service which could provide federal funds to expand forestry activities on privately owned land.

The purpose of this initiative is to conserve forests, increase economic development, and improve fiscal stability of municipalities. With enough public interest a request could be made to the Forest Service to designate an area which would be eligible to receive assistance.

Remaining public listening sessions are scheduled for:

Cheshire: Monday, March 24th, 6-8 pm at the Community and Senior Center, 119 School Street.

North Adams: Monday, March 31st, 6-8 pm at McCann Technical School, 70 Hodges Cross Road.

Municipal officers, residents, business owners, landowners, and foresters are encouraged to attend.
